Getty Marrow Undergraduate Summer Internship:  Communications and  Marketing 2026 

Through funding provided by the Getty Foundation for the Getty Marrow Undergraduate Internship program, the Communications and Marketing department of the Skirball Cultural Center offers one summer internship for a qualified undergraduate student. The  Communications and Marketing Intern  will help spread the word about the Skirball's array of exhibitions, public programs, and educational initiatives, specifically those related to Skirball offerings in summer and fall 2026. Additionally, the intern will play an integral role in creating content for the Skirball's social media accounts, particularly Instagram and TikTok. The intern will also assist the Communications and Marketing department with additional projects as needed, including (but not limited to) copyediting, surveying audiences, creating e-newsletters, and light design work.

Dates/Hours:  

The full-time summer internship will be held in-person at the Skirball Cultural Center. (40 hours/week), with a stipend of $7,400 (approx. $18.50/hr.), for a consecutive ten-week work period starting June 15 and ending August 21.

 
The schedule is Monday – Friday, 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in weekly planning meetings to help determine communications objectives and advertising/marketing/promotional campaigns. 
  • Conduct grassroots outreach to a wide range of communities in order to stimulate attendance and diversify audiences at Skirball programs and exhibitions. 
  • Develop digital outreach materials and maintain the outreach database. 
    Assist with e-newsletter creation and reporting. 
  • Create social media content, engage with communities on specific platforms, analyze analytics, and assist with social media-specific projects when assigned. 
  • Contribute to market research projects—including conducting in-person/online 
    surveys, tabulating survey responses, and tracking results. 
  • Proofread and fact-check Skirball publications, including bimonthly calendars, direct-mail postcards, and informational brochures. 

Qualifications, Experience, and Attributes:  

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills. 
  • Ability to problem-solve independently and collaborate with others. 
  • Interest in communications, PR, and/or marketing in the nonprofit field. 
  • Familiarity with and/or interest in social media platforms and creating ongoing campaigns.
  • Some design and editing background or knowledge of Photoshop, InDesign, and Capcut is preferred but not required. 
  • Knowledge of website content management systems (CMS) is helpful but not required. 
  • Must be able to commute to and from the Skirball independently (transportation is not provided). 

Eligibility:  

Applicants must fulfill the following requirements: 

  • Be currently enrolled as a full –time undergraduate student in either a Bachelor's degree program or an Associate's degree program. Students must have completed at least one semester or two quarters of college by June 2026. Students who graduated this semester or quarter immediately before the internship begins are also eligible. (Students who are enrolled in a second BA or BS program are  not  eligible.) 
  • Attend college in or be a permanent resident of LA County. 
  • Be a United States citizen or permanent resident (non-citizen authorized to live and work in the United States on a permanent basis; also known as a "green card" holder). Students with DACA (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrival) status valid through the internship period are eligible 

While this internship is intended for students from backgrounds underrepresented in museums and visual arts professions, eligible candidates from all backgrounds will be considered. Candidates are sought from all areas of undergraduate study at any higher education institution – community college, trade school, and public and private university – and are not required to demonstrate a previous commitment to the visual arts. Candidates will have the opportunity to show their interest in museums and visual arts professions and how they might add diverse and underrepresented perspectives, which can include – among other things – socio-economic status, cultural background, physical or other disability, geographical origin, and/or any other life experiences.
