Compensation:

• Annual Salary Range: $60,694.40 - $109,324.80
• Hourly Pay Range: $29.18 - $52.56

Position Summary & Responsibilities

Position Summary:

The KBI is accepting applications to fill one position in the Biology/DNA Casework Section in our Great Bend Laboratory. Seeking qualified or entry-level candidates for the position.

Job Responsibilities may include but are not limited to the following:

• Forensic Scientist I-II: Duties of this position include, but are not limited to: training by means of an intensive training program to perform body fluid analysis and DNA testing procedures (extraction, quantitation, amplification and separation) using robotics, PCR techniques and capillary electrophoresis; writing reports; testifying in court as an expert witness; and performing general laboratory duties.
• Forensic Scientist III: Duties include those listed above as well as conducting validations, research, and performing other advanced duties; and assisting in training of scientists.

Qualifications

Education

• Bachelor’s or an advanced degree in a biology-, chemistry-, or forensic science-related area with a minimum of 9 credit hours of biology related coursework.

Licensing & Certification

Minimum Qualifications

• Forensic Scientist I: Bachelors degree in a life science including nine (9) credit hours of coursework in biology- or chemistry- related areas that provide an understanding of the foundation of DNA analysis. College coursework is also required in Statistics or Population Genetics.
• Forensic Scientist II: Bachelors degree in a life science including nine (9) credit hours of coursework in biology- or chemistry- related areas that provide an understanding of the foundation of DNA analysis. College coursework is also required in Statistics or Population Genetics and two (2) years of relevant work experience.
• Forensic Scientist III: Bachelors degree in a life science including nine (9) credit hours of coursework in biology- or chemistry- related areas that provide an understanding of the foundation of DNA analysis. College coursework is also required in Statistics or Population Genetics and five (5) years of relevant work experience.

Preferred Qualifications

• Forensic Scientist I: Bachelor’s or advanced degree in biology or forensic biology with course work in genetics, biochemistry, molecular/cell biology, statistics and/or population genetics.
• Forensic Scientist II: Bachelor’s or advanced degree in biology or forensic biology with course work in genetics, biochemistry, molecular/cell biology, statistics and/or population genetics. Experience performing independent casework; examining, evaluating, and reporting out results in biology/DNA casework. Experience testifying in a court of law as a Forensic Biologist. Experience working with an ISO/IEC 17025 accredited forensic science laboratory. Knowledge of the FBI DNA Quality Assurance Standards (QAS)
• Forensic Scientist III: Bachelor’s or advanced degree in biology or forensic biology with course work in genetics, biochemistry, molecular/cell biology, statistics and/or population genetics. Experience performing independent casework; examining, evaluating, and reporting out results in biology casework. Experience testifying in a court of law as a Forensic Biologist. Experience in training other scientists or conducting relevant validations/research. Experience working with an ISO/IEC 17025 accredited forensic science laboratory. Post-Offer, Pre-employment Requirements

• As a condition of employment, you will be subject to a pre-employment process to include a polygraph examination, fingerprint based records check, and comprehensive background investigation, including reference check of past and present employers. The pre-employment process will be waived for current KBI personnel who have previously completed the screening requirements
